Senate Republicans triggered the “nuclear option” to push Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch. This enabled Republicans to end a long-standing rule that 60 votes were required to cut off debate about a Supreme Court nominee, despite Gorsuch’s nomination being successfully filibustered by Senate Democrats. A vote on Gorsuch’s appointment is scheduled for today, and the conservative judge is poised to assume a position on the court.
