Gaby’s recycled friendship bracelets
My mom works with a social enterprise that uses plastic as substitutes for materials like yarn and thread. They crochet the plastic into bags, pouches, keychains, and bracelets. I borrowed the idea to use plastic bags for this braided friendship bracelet from them. The project only takes a few minutes, and you won’t have to run to the store to buy fancy materials.
What you’ll need:
- Plastic bags in multiple colors (Or you could also just use yarn.)
- Scissors
- Tape
How to do it:
Step One
Cut the plastic bags into strips. Make sure each strip is long enough to go around your wrist two times. Twist each piece until it forms a strand that feels strong enough to braid.
Step Two
Line up three strands and tape the tips to a flat surface.
Step Three
Braid the three strands.
Step Four
Keep braiding until you come to the end of the strands.
Step Five
Make a loop at the end of the braid and tie a knot.
Step Six
Tie the other end of the braid (the side that’s been taped down).
Step Seven
Loop the braid. Make sure it’s big enough for a hand to slide through, then tie the two ends together. Double knot it to make it more secure. Now you’ve got yourself a green holiday gift! ♦
