On a sunny afternoon in mid-October, 15 of us gathered in a huge warehouse studio in Philadelphia. I hung a roll of shiny tin foil on the wall and set a single stool in the center, making sure to give as little instruction as possible to each of my friends. I wanted these portraits to reflect their personalities and mannerisms. I played both makeup artist and photographer that day. I ran around nonstop for six hours, making sure everything was just right. Behind the scenes, people played guitar and everyone acted as my assistant at one time or another. As the sun set, we were finished at last and got pizza to celebrate.
Thank you to Andrea, Ashley, Astrid, Betsey, Caroline, David, Ethan, Harry, Lily, Liz, Mia, Owen, Paris, Sachi, and Sam.
