Within the past year, I have severed ties with an extremely close friend. After we split, I spent a semester abroad in Napa, California at the Oxbow School, which gave me the perfect environment to renew my relationship with myself. When I returned home, however, I was haunted by my memories of them. In ordinary moments—watching Netflix or making grilled cheeses—their lingering presence followed me. For this painting series, I set out to illustrate these ghosts and, I hope, expel them from my mind.
