Summer means vacation time for many, and my (Stephanie) favorite kind of trip is the road trip. I also loooooove road trip books (my current favorite is The Way Back To You by Michelle Andreani and Mindi Scott, which is about two teens who go to meet the recipients of the organs that a friend they lost donated) and movies (like Zombieland because it has, well, zombies!). One of my biggest bucket-list goals is to spend a month some summer seeing all of U.S. Route 66. Alas, there are no road trips in the cards for me this summer. So, I’m relying on you, my creative Rooks, to fuel (heh, sorry, couldn’t resist) my road trip fantasies.

Write a road trip story—it could be the memory of one you took, plans for one you’d like to take someday, or something completely imaginary (maybe featuring zombies!). You could create a whole cycle of poems or illustrations around this stuff—the snacks! the mixtapes! the sometimes sketchy accommodations! Share photos from a road trip or illustrate your dream journey—maybe even make a map.

Get on the road in whatever form suits you and send us the result—along with your first name, last initial, age, and location—to [email protected] with the subject line “Creative Prompt” by Monday, June 13 at 6 PM EST.

Your last prompt was to literally exercise your creativity. Here’s what your endorphins brought out…
