I spoke to Alison Bechdel a couple years ago, and she said she sought out lesbian literature—or projected queerness on characters like Harriet the Spy—to see versions of herself reflected back at her when she was young and confused about her sexuality. When writing I Love This Part, was it important to create a story about being a young queer woman for young queer women to identify with?
