I made my book, Time After Time, as a means to categorize and explore the narratives in the outfits I’ve concocted over the years. I’m a collector, and it seemed necessary to somehow display the garments and objects I’ve treasured for so long. Time After Time includes a bunch of different sections, including advice and tips for thrift shopping, a selection of my absolute favorite thrifted finds, and a fashion editorial section (of sorts!). I have put together outfits, including the ones in this gallery, from my personal collection and modeled them, with each outfit accompanied by a short, personal narrative referencing pop culture, family folklore, and feelings. These images are really important to me because they map a number of nostalgic years in my life through garments.
I am interested in exploring my fixation with particular pieces of clothing, and in thinking about the emotions human wearers (metaphorically!) stain their clothes with. Thrift-shopping is a challenge that I find endlessly stimulating, inspiring, and exciting. Time After Time is an ode to that, and all the artwork, imaginings, and realities I’ve created thanks to it. —Minna Gilligan
