The women who appeared in the impressionist painter Renoir’s portraits had rosy cheeks that appeared to burn from within—as though they had just been, like, running around a pebbly beach or in a grassy meadow.

With just two products and one beauty tool, you can get that fall-ish, flushed look, too—and without even setting foot outside.

What you’ll need:

  • A red lipstick that you love
  • A foundation in your color
  • A blending brush

How to do it:

Step One

Start with a clean, moisturized face! We’re going to apply blush before foundation today, so a nicely primed face is the ideal canvas.

Step Two

Put two stripes of red lipstick on the tops of your cheekbones and a small dot on your nose. This is where the sun would naturally hit if you were out in the countryside somewhere, you know, looking for wildflowers.

Step Three

Load your brush with foundation, and blend it into each cheek and toward your temples, then over your nose, using upward motions all the while. The lipstick and foundation will merge together to create a dreamy, hazy color. After fully blending the lipstick and foundation, add more foundation if you’d like more coverage.

Step Four

Apply a bit of foundation under your eyes. Curl your lashes, and put on one coat of mascara. Finish by dabbing some red lipstick onto a finger, then rubbing it into your lips. Using the same color on your cheeks and lips unifies the look and makes it seem like your natural flush.
