    This is so wonderful!

Now I’m rethinking my Disney-centralized childhood haha – but if I’m correctly remembering this, I think Lewis Carroll just naturally hallucinated and many of his strange characters (incl. the caterpillar) were a creation of his visions?
Anyway, great post, and beautiful drawings <3

Let’s not even get started on Hannah Montana. Or ANYTHING on the D-ney Channel. Not that I watched it but I saw it at other peoples’ houses who had it.

I love rewatchimg old movies and shows for the innuendos. :)

I rewatched Animaniacs last year and had the same experience! I couldn’t believe how explicit some of it was. I love it even more now!

The Speedy Gonzalez cartoons were baby’s first lesson in Mexican stereotypes and *thats* what makes them inappropriate. You could add sure that drug use is a part of that but it’s not the elephant in the room with that cartoon.

“to get to the ‘other side'” WOW I NEVER GOT THAT. I feel like an idiot truly but thank you!

I… never knew that about “Why did the chicken cross the road?” That brings up all sorts of existential questions. It hurts.

Really great article Esme! I haven’t seen most of these things, but I have my own list of less-innocent-than-I-thought movies from childhood.

I love the fact that your grandpa wore a full three piece suit just to watch tv!

OH MY GOD no!! Ahh I noticed this stuff too, and even now a lot of Disney movies have subtle little jokes going on here and there, maybe to keep the parents entertained? Seriously, why!? And BAHAHA that pregnancy scare in Grease. I discovered it literally last year when I watched it again in ages, and I was like how on earth did I even like this movie at 7 years old… And why did my mum let me watch it…

I was oblivious to so much of this!! especially grease! I’ve read pieces like this that talk about Disney movies, and I’m always in shock! it adds some humor now, though!
