To make my collages, I collect a lot of scraps of paper and scan them in little bunches to use in future projects. I try to fit as many pieces as possible on each scanner plate, so I arrange them like puzzle pieces, not thinking about composition as much as about saving space. Sometimes I’m in a hurry and accidentally scan something upside down or forget to clean out the plate before arranging the next bunch, and this is when the Scanner Stories (mindlessly scanned accidental compositions) happen. As my mind often wanders when I work, it’s a pretty frequent phenomenon—a peek into my own subconsciousness unraveling itself into a visual poem under the beam of the scanner lamp. This is a selection of my favorite Scanner Stories, the ones that I often like more than my consciously composed works. (In some of them you can recognize parts of my Rookie illustrations!)

It’s such a great feeling.. to watch these awesome pictures, knowing that they were made by a polish artist (especially when you’re a Pole too :>). I’m very impressed, ’cause I make collages too and this set is so damn inspiring!
