Happy Halloween, Rooks! This year, as the result of spell-casting gone awry, you will be spending Halloween as a ghost. No, I haven’t chosen your costume for you: I mean that for 24 hours you will be an actual ghost! What are you going to do with those 24 hours? Are you going to use your powers of stealth and invisibility to sneak around and have an adventure that you couldn’t have in your earthly form? To spy and learn secrets? To cause a little mischief à la invisible Harry Potter throwing snowballs at Malfoy? Are you going to seek out other ghosts? Maybe some famous ghost musicians are putting on a concert. Maybe there is a figure from history who you’ve always wanted to meet or a famous urban legend ghost in your area that you want to get the true story from. One of my grandmothers passed away before I was born, so I might seek her out (probably in the company of my pets who have moved to the Great Beyond) and see if she’ll have a ghostly dinner party with me.

There are so many possibilities! And while I gave you that spell scenario and the 24 hour time limit, I didn’t give you any details, so you can feel free to incorporate that into your ghost story too. You are welcome to tell about your ghostly adventures in any form: story, poem, comic, collage–any artistic expression that suits it! Send your Halloween tale to us along with your first name, last initial, age, and city/state to [email protected] with the subject line “Creative Prompt” by Wednesday, October 31 at 6 PM EST.
