you are a galaxy

there’s something to be said
about the way we look to our constellations and think
of only distance and a cold but beautiful silence
there is enough of the cosmos
down here for all of us
we gravitate towards each other
at the most uncertain points of our lives
you do what i wish i could do for myself—
you hold me close to the earth
so i do not get lost
and so i see the stars and dreams
revolving around me with perspective
and i, in turn,
show you the galaxies left to be discovered
and the planets perched
on the most tender parts of your fingertips
