Cammy

For years, I’ve been trying to teach myself guitar on my mom’s huge acoustic. I’m really small and my hands are pretty small, so that didn’t work out very well. So, with my birthday money I bought a 3/4 size electric guitar. I love it so much! My hands are still small, the F-chord is super hard to play, but it feels good to express myself musically again. I played flute for five years—it broke and since flutes are pretty expensive, I never replaced it. I didn’t realize how important it is for me to be able to make music. Now when I get home I can’t wait to learn new chords or play along to songs I love. I’ve had a lot of excess energy over the last couple of years, and I finally have something to channel it into.

It’s fun to fantasize about accidentally becoming a musical phenomenon. With SoundCloud and Bandcamp kids can record things from their bedroom and blow up, which I think is really cool. I care about being super famous or anything, I am just really into sharing my creations with the world. I really appreciate the work of honest musicians like Alex G and Frankie Cosmos, and if this guitar thing really works out I’d hope to be like them. I know this is is ambitious but I’m excited to see another path I can take with my life. ♦
