I am an introvert and kind of hate parties, but I’ve always loved party scenes and stories in books, movies, and TV shows. I used to fantasize about what high school would be like while watching parties on screen—even though those parties were in Beverly Hills or New York City or some place way fancier or further away than I could ever imagine being. As a storyteller, I love that a rager is often a setting for a character to rise to glory or come into their own. Parties also can set the scene for big falls and epic takedowns. Whether something good or bad happens, there is so much narrative possibility at a good party.

So this week, show or tell us about an amazing party. You could give us a peek into the opulence—showing us who is there, what they are wearing and doing, what the decorations look like. Or you could write a story that describes how someone rises or falls into bliss or chaos. If nonfiction is your thing, make a depiction of the best (or worst) party you’ve ever been to. Maybe it wasn’t an extravagant affair, but it left you feeling like you’d really lived. As always, feel free to share your work in whatever form suits you—poetry, stories, collages, or anything in between. Send your party piece—plus your first name, last initial, age, and location—to [email protected] with the subject line “Creative Prompt” by Monday, April 10 at 6 PM ET.

Last week, we asked you to take inventory of what’s changing with the seasons. Here’s what’s in store this spring…
