It was a long winter, and there are days when it doesn’t feel like it’s over yet. As my crusty lids peel open, I realize it’s time to emerge from hibernation. I wish I was able to just burst through the door and scream, “Yay! Let me into that world!” but I move more slowly than that. I’m taking inspiration, though, from a YouTube clip I have watched many times in different emotional states. It is titled “Hilarious Dachshund on Holiday.” This four-minute clip tracks Spithas, a dachshund from Greece. You see him wake up, frolic at a gorgeous beach, and chill in a pretty slick speed boat:
This dachshund, like many I have met, is not hindered by his short stature. He shows no hesitation in leaping from any height straight into the ocean. He takes off as though he will fly across the sky.
Some dark mornings—particularly ones that call for a pre-8 AM alarm—require me to think of Spithas. Who is your Spithas? Is there a pet meme that makes you laugh, or feel a little lighter? Take a moment to reflect, and then draw (or write about) them in extremely active poses or scenarios. Here are some examples I illustrated:
These vignettes will hopefully inspire you to get out there and have an adventure yourself. Send your action-animal–inspired art—plus your first name, last initial, age, and location—to [email protected] with the subject line “Creative Prompt” by Monday, April 24 at 6 PM ET.
Last week, we asked you to plant a magic garden. Here’s what you grew…
