Do you miss summer break already? Or maybe summer wasn’t what you’d hoped for and now you are super bummed, like I am, that it’s almost over? This week’s Creative Prompt is to take some time to relive and record your favorite summer moment. It could be from this summer or from summers past. It could even be a daydream about the summer you wish you had—you can make it real on the page.

Maybe there was an epic party, a great day at the amusement park, or an incredible vacation. Maybe this was a summer with a first for you, like a first kiss, first trip without parents, or first time driving. Sometimes small-seeming moments have just as much, or even more, impact. I had a summer that seemed boring—just me and my friends eating in diners, driving around aimlessly, hanging out in 7-Eleven parking lots—but to paraphrase The Perks of Being a Wallflower, in a lot of those moments, I swear we were infinite. And those moments are still some of my favorite memories.

So share your moments, Rooks, whether they are big or small. Capture your summer, maybe with a prose piece, an “I Remember” poem, a comic, or a collage. Then send it along with your first name, last initial, age, and location to [email protected] with the subject line “Creative Prompt” by Monday, September 19 at 6 PM EST. ♦
