A vase that channels a disco ball.

A shimmering, disco ball of a vase.

I love the idea of using mirrors and other reflective surfaces to open up a space. I also like to fill my room with symbolic things that remind me to be more aware of myself and the world around me. This DIY mirrored lightbulb vase resembles a disco ball and repurposes a typical household item that can hold your favorite flowers.

What you’ll need:

  • Glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Lightbulb vase ($1.99 from Michaels)
  • A CD or DVD
  • Glitter
  • Scissors (not pictured)
  • Flowers

How to do it:

Step One

Plug your hot glue gun into an outlet, place a glue stick in it, and wait a couple of minutes for it to heat up. While waiting, you can go on ahead and move to step two.

Step Two

Grab a pair of scissors and cut up a CD or DVD. The plastic cover may fall off, as you can see on the right side of the photo above, but don’t worry, that’s totally fine!

Step Three

Take your lightbulb vase and with your hot glue gun, draw or write out anything you wish—a venus symbol, a moon, your name, anything! Immediately after that, take a pinch of glitter and sprinkle it over the glue before it hardens. Then, this part can get a bit messy, blow off any residue glitter.

Step Four

Glue the cut up pieces of your CD or DVD to the lightbulb vase in any pattern you wish, leaving a little space between each piece.

Step Five

Fill your shimmering vase with water and place your favorite flower inside. If you want to be extra dreamy, you can put a splash of oil, glitter, or food coloring in with the water. ♦
