Let’s face it: Boring old plastic pens just won’t cut it when you’re journaling about your awesome summer escapades. You need something just as exciting as everything that’s happening. And you can keep your writing spunky and sparkly with these dazzling glitter pens!
What you’ll need:
- Pens (any pen with a cap will work)
- Double-sided tape
- Old newspaper
- Ruler (not pictured)
- Spray varnish/clear nail polish/clear spray paint (optional)
- Protective face mask and safety gloves (if you’re using spray paint or varnish, you’ll need these, too)
How to do it:
Lay a sheet of newspaper onto your working surface. Then, take a smaller sheet of newspaper or scratch paper, fold it in half, and place it on top of the larger sheet.
Uncap the pen you want to sparkle-ify, making sure that it is clean and dry.
Mark the point up to where the cap closes.
Using a ruler, measure how long your pen is up to the point that you marked.
Cut out an adequate strip of double-sided tape after measuring it based on the length of your pen up to the marked line.
Cover the pen in enough tape to make it sticky for the glitter to adhere, making sure not to go over the marked line. Peel off the non-sticky part of the double-sided tape.
You can even make different designs (like stripes, ombré, and more) by experimenting with the tape.
Pour a generous amount of glitter onto the pen, being careful not to make the sticky parts come into contact with other surfaces. Roll the pen in the glitter. Transfer the loose glitter from the folded newspaper onto the pen and repeat the process until the pen is fully coated.
Once the pen is fully coated (make sure the tape isn’t exposed anymore), tap it onto a surface to shake off the extra glitter.
Repeat steps six and seven with the cap.
Step Nine (optional)
Finish the pen by using spray varnish/spray paint or clear nail polish over the glittery parts to ensure that loose glitter doesn’t get onto your hands while you’re writing. If you choose to spray, wear a protective face mask and safety gloves.*
*NOTE: This step should be done outdoors to avoid inhalation of fumes from the paint/varnish.
Let it dry overnight, and you’re done. Now let your writing shimmer and shine! ♦
