This month, we asked you to seek out the legends, doodles, graffiti, and oddities unique to your school. In return, you’ve blessed us with photos of bathroom walls that double as advice pages, and straight up baffling illustrations (and the occasional collage) from your textbooks. Here is the heartwarming hilarity that you sent our way. The above photo is from Roni, age 16, in Boston, who says: “This little baby-graduate is making it rain in my pre-calc book.” [Editor’s Note: If you’re not seeing your submission, it’s because the image was too small (1,200 pixels across is perfect), the attachment didn’t work, or your email was missing info like your name, age, or city. To submit to future Rookie posts, look over here for submission guidelines so we don’t miss a single one of the gems you have to share.]
El rebelde (the rebel) in my Spanish textbook. Apparently he’s wearing a ’60s shirt because he likes to be different. Tight! —Stella, 15, Los Angeles, CA
Lyrics from a Front Bottoms song appeared on the bathroom wall in our school’s science building. They were painted over the very next day. —Haley Searcy, 17, Durham, NC
This is the picture in my Driver’s Ed book under the heading “Road Rage.” —Ticara, 16, Muskogee, OK
Next to the bathroom door hinge, someone has written, in tiny pink letters, the word “space.” The fluorescent lighting makes is even more frightening. It made me happy! —Greer, 18, Brisbane, Australia
I thought this was funny mostly because in light pink below “Love your body…” someone has written, “Not counting the one in my basement.” —Greer, 18, Brisbane, Australia
Class and a long-ass meeting. —Vanessa Crofskey, 18, Wellington, New Zealand
The cover of and a page from my ancient speech textbook, which has the copyright date 1989. —Tasi, 14, Guam
I spotted this sign on my way to class. —Sarah, 17, Los Angeles, CA
A piece of artwork in the main building of my school; I smile whenever I see it. —Sara, 17, Auckland, New Zealand
I found this in the bathroom stall of my college —Rachel Mupenda, 20, Fort Washington, MD
No disrespect to The Great Gatsby but sometimes first period English just doesn’t work out and I find myself unable to resist mentally escaping via doodle. This doodle was inspired by something I once saw online. —Nora, 17, New York City, NY
In-depth, in-class doodles from Philosophy, when I just couldn’t Kant any longer. —Mo, 19, Chicago, IL
We found Rookie our freshmen year because Rookie Yearbook One caught our eye in the school library. We loved it so much that we illegally wrote our names in it—and never got caught. (Look for Mallory with a diamond at the top left, and Stephanie with a crown on the bottom right.) — Mallory, 16, Reno, NV
This is a doodle I made when I was incredibly bored in French class. When I tried to take a picture of it, the lamplight hit the picture perfectly and now it looks like a sunrise above the ocean. —Maria, 17, Chemnitz, Germany
This is a terrifying failure of a collage I found in my geometry textbook. It’s truly nightmare inducing. —Lauren, 15, Hortonville, WI
This is an actual full-page photo inexplicably placed between two chapters in my communication textbook. I have NO idea what its purpose is. My classmates and I spend a fair amount of time laughing about it. Enjoy! —Bash, 18, Detroit, MI
I saw this graffiti in the bathroom at FIT and thought it was fitting! —Mia, 18, New York City, NY
I realize that my psychology textbook is rented AFTER I draw all around this photo of Javier Bardem. I look forward to explaining my piece at the end of the semester. —Jamie, 18, Huntington, NY
Some graffiti I discovered in a hidden room at my school that not many people know about. —Haley, 17, Durham, NC
Pauline Hanson is a former Australian politician who was openly xenophobic, and blatantly racist against Indigenous Australians (just to cover all bases), so I appreciated this one. —Greer, 18, Brisbane, Australia
Probably one of the most confusing photos I’ve seen in a textbook, but I still kind of love it. Mostly I just dig his stripy sweater. We need more people like this in the world. —Clare, 16, Melbourne, Australia
An equal parts bizarre and uncomfortable photo from my friend Sid’s psych textbook. —Elaine, 16, San Jose, CA
