I was looking for a way to spice up my collared shirts with a DIY, and I decided nature was my best bet. I made this flower- and plant-based collar accessory to add a sweet touch to my look, and the color doesn’t hurt. This easy, no-sew DIY will have flowers resting on your collars in no time! Let’s get started!

What you’ll need:

  • Two fake flowers with wire or otherwise bendable stems. Mine are from Michaels.
  • Embroidery thread, like the kind you use to make friendship bracelets.
  • Scissors
  • A hot glue gun (optional)
  • Real flowers or plants (optional)

How to do it:

Step One

Wrap the wire stems of the flowers around each other, locking them together by bending them into a collar shape.

Step Two

Firmly grasp the combined wires and tie a knot around them with the embroidery thread on one end of the wires.

Step Three

Wrap the thread around the wires, tightly securing them together.

Step Four

Continue winding the thread down the length of your wires, until you reach the ends. This doesn’t take long at all, but it starts feeling slightly therapeutic. Leave an inch or so of extra thread, then cut it from the spool. Tie a knot with the thread at the end.

Step Five

You should have something that looks like this at this point! You can stop here, or continue and make another, switching out your plastic flowers for anything your heart desires.

I chose leaves!

Step Six

I popped out the flowers, grabbed my hot glue gun, pressed some hot glue into the tube of the base stem, and carefully (but firmly) inserted the leaves. After letting it cool, I was done!

I wrapped it around my collar and let the leaves pop through! Ah, nature. ♦
