meshcoverup done

Summer, to me, means being at the pool as many days as humanly possible. I like to feel comfortable-cute on the trek to and from the pool, and a mesh cover-up keeps me cool and covered while still showing off my swimsuit. With this DIY, you can whip up your own mesh cover-up in no time. Follow me, bathing beauts!

What you’ll need:

MeshCoverup1

  • An oversized T-shirt
  • Scissors or sewing shears
  • Two yards of mesh stretch fabric
  • A marker
  • A sewing machine or needle and thread (I matched my thread’s color to my mesh fabric, but you don’t have to)
  • Straight pins

How to do it:

Step One

MeshCoverup2

Fold your fabric in half, and make sure the edges line up nicely.

Step Two

Fold your T-shirt in half, lining it up with the fold of the fabric. Using the outline of the T-shirt as a guide, mark the armpit opening, the shoulder opening, the length of the shoulder, and the collar opening on the fabric.

Step Three

Cut the shape of the shirt out of the folded fabric. I wanted my cover-up to be sleeveless, so I cut from the armpit opening to the shoulder opening (instead of around the outline of the T-shirt’s sleeve).

Step Four

Repeat Step Two and Step Three—now you have the two identical sides for your cover-up!

Step Five

Use your straight pins to pin the two sides of the cover-up together at the shoulder seams and side seams. Stitch through the length of the sides and shoulders (be sure to not stitch through the arm holes!).
