Lotion “Wand”

Lotion is your (skin’s) best friend. And what could be nicer than creating your own best friend? A friend, I might add, with an enchanting scent and a knack for moisturizing. Here’s how:

What you’ll need:

  • One and a half tablespoons of beeswax
  • One and a half teaspoons of almond oil
  • One and a half teaspoons of apricot kernel oil
  • One tablespoon of cocoa butter
  • Two and a quarter teaspoons of mango butter
  • Two and a quarter teaspoons of shea butter
  • Eucalyptus essential oil
  • Lavender essential oil
  • A push-up container like these, cupcake wrappers or foils, or any other clean container

How to do it:

Step One

Measure your beeswax, almond oil, apricot kernel oil, and cocoa butter into a small, microwave-safe dish. NOTE: If you are using unrefined cocoa butter, like I did, do not fret! I just kind of scoop and grate around the surface to get whatever shavings and chunks I can. You can do it, too!

Step Two

Melt your mixture in the microwave in 15-second increments. You will probably need one minute, but make sure to take pause in between so that the dish and mixture doesn’t overheat. And don’t forget to use a mitt to take that bowl outta the microwave!

Step Three

Quickly measure your shea and mango butters and stir them into the hot mixture. If your liquid begins to thicken (like in the bottom pic), then pop the dish back into the microwave for 15 seconds.

Now add your smells (aka essential oils)! I love lavender + eucalyptus. Together, they’re relaxing and fresh all at once. NATURE! MAGIC! I used 10 drops of eucalyptus oil and 13 drops of lavender oil, but those amounts are just guidelines; you can add more or less depending on your preferences—though I wouldn’t recommend more than 25 drops total in a batch this size!

Step Five

Time to fill! I love push-up containers as “wands,” but miniature cupcake wrappers or foils are totally crafty ways to hold your lotion. I used a pipette to fill my containers, but a spoon should work, too!

In a handful of minutes, your lotion wand will set and be ready to make its magical debut on your skin! I love this concoction because it isn’t incredibly greasy, but is still a dry skin savior that works amazingly well as a multi-purpose balm.
