How to make a boring job a game.
Interesting and funny ideas ! They might come in handy for my summer job in retail … Thank you !
I adore the “conversations” and the dares on slides 3 + 4; and the candy rewards system sounds like the best thing ever!
Laughed out loud! Trying hard to get any job, so when I finally start I’m going to have a great time! :)
Oh my gosh, this is so accurate. I played all of these games but the dares but they sound like even more fun!!
When cleaning up at the end of the day I used to leave notes on the order pad for the girls that had to do the early morning shift (usually a cheery greeting and some sort of Simon and Garfunkel lyric)
Oh god these are *too real*
I work in a grocery store also and I repeat the same things so many times that sometimes I have to just say like “sorry if I already asked you this but…” because I can’t remember the last three people I rang up.
The candy thing is a good idea!
Hahahaha, I repeat things all the time!
Me: “Hi, how are you? Plastic bag?”
Customer: “That is the third time you have asked me for a plastic bag. Please stop.”
Then if they say no to a plastic bag, I like to congratulate them on saving a turtle.
I used to draw on the back of the receipts all the time when I was still working in retail. I was often the only sales assistant in the store so I had to do things that were sneaky to keep me entertained.

I am with you on feeling like an uncool bug
this is SO relevant!! I started my first job a couple months ago and I absolutely dread going to work (I work in fast food). I’ve been tempted to pick up doodling on receipt paper, but I’m still too intimidated by my bosses/coworkers to feel free enough to do anything other than hunt down more tasks to do haha. and you’re so right about talking to customers making the job more fun!
Thank you for this!
talking to customers is so much fun, especially during night shifts. the most interesting people come in late, and they actually stay and talk for a while which is really nice.
Only makes sense:
haha so accurate!
I always just pretend I’m in a music video
this was very interesting, nice comic!
I used to work at a kiosk, which was very small. I was always alone when I was working, and there where hardly any customers. I would just read books and magazines all day.
