Beverage in a Pear Tree

Combine an equal ratio of pear cider and ginger ale or ginger brew (such as Reed’s) in a glass. Add a splash of cherry juice or pomegranate juice (POM Wonderful is a good one). Garnish with a few pomegranate seeds; sip with pinky out.

On the third day of Christmas, Rookie gave to you…this delicious sipper! It’s a sparkling grape juice kind of situation, but elevated and even more festive. If you’re lucky enough to live in the vicinity of a Trader Joe’s, try their pear cider, which is perfectly spiced. And if you can’t find pear cider, other varieties—especially of the apple persuasion—are totally great stand-ins…it’s just that my “The Twelve Days of Christmas”–inspired title won’t work anymore. For that reason, I suggest pear! Another note: I prefer ginger brew to ginger ale. The brew has a spicy bite that’s a bit intense on its own, but is awesome when mingling with beverage-friends, as it is here. May I also recommend serving this holiday drink in a fancy toasting flute? Go crazy!
