So, I had my Halloween gathering on Friday, and, after asking several much more experienced partygoers, decided to tell people that it was, in fact, a party and not a “gathering.”

I invited 22 people, and all of them showed up. While the whole idea of it was terrifying, and I worried that it was going to be awkward and completely devoid of conversation, I must admit it was a success!

Early in the evening, I picked Ethan and Louis up from the train station, as they live two hours away. Then Rebecca and Sophie came ’round so we could all get ready together. Rebecca did Ethan’s makeup while I did Louis’s, and then we all got changed and added the finishing touches to our costumes. Guests started arriving at half seven, and my dad took a bunch of portraits before he and my mother left the house for a quick curry.

They hadn’t been home more than a few minutes when one of my friends, who’d decided it was a good idea to down half a bottle of vodka, threw up on the carpet and sofa in the living room (worst place!). That part was horrendous. But other than that it was a fantastic night, ending around half one.

Here, for your enjoyment, are my father’s snaps of us in our full regalia:
