Every summer, a tiny traveling carnival unpacks and sets up in the parking lot of the local rundown mall. When I was little, this was a very big event in my community—everyone would set out at dusk and feel the magic while spinning around on the rides. This year, the place felt abandoned. My friends Dorothy, Lily, Rhea, and Leonie and I were the only ones there besides the three people running the rides. I guess all the kids have grown up and no longer feel the magic of the carnival.
