Sunday Video: How to Make a Thing With the Blow

Khaela Maricich and Melissa Dyne are here to help you get creative.

You know what can be really hard? Making art. Or music. Or poems, clothes, plays, videos, collages, Tumblrs, jokes, photos, stories, interpretive dances—basically, making anything that didn’t exist before you made it. If that idea freaks you out, you’re not alone! But we have some good news. Khaela Maricich and Melissa Dyne of the Blow are here to coach you through the creative process. They’ve made a ton of art and music, including a record that came out about a month ago. So if you’ve ever stared at a blank page/canvas/screen/stage and felt paralyzed with fear, or wanted to throw something you made across the room, this video is for you.

“other people’s opinions of me are not my business” i want to scream this off of a very tall building and put it on a t-shirt

This is amazing! I’ve always felt scared of a blank canvas and even the freedom of doing something by myself without any instruction or regulation. This really helps me to not be scared of my own creativity, thank you so much again, rookie <3

This was so refreshing to watch. I am procrastinating right now (surprise, surprise) and really needed this. Thank you so much for the tips and reassurance! Great video that I shall refer back to in the future. :-)

This is such great inspiration for NaNoWriMo! I’m working really hard on stamping out my inner editor and just letting myself write crap that can be revised later.

I really needed this. Right now, I’m in (what I hope) a phase where I never felt like write things anymore, procrastinating, trying to run away from my responsibilities, I think? Thank you very much for this <3
