So my mom’s moving to San Miguel de Allende, a city in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. I went to see her new place with my friends Citlalli and Manolin. We were there for independence day—that’s September 16, not Cinco de Mayo, by the way—and got to celebrate in this beautiful city. It was LOVELY. Here are some pictures from that weekend.
The streets were decorated with flags and papel picado, literally “perforated paper.” Here Citlalli and Manolin are taking a walk with Citlalli’s doll.
Citlalli and Manolin were talking about something funny, but I couldn’t hear because I was taking their picture from the other side of the street!
That’s me. Hi!
Citlalli’s a biologist, so of course we went to Charco del Ingenio, the city’s botanical garden. The place was kinda closed because of private event, but we managed to get in, and it was awesome!

Manolin enjoying nature!
There were a lot of cacti everywhere, and those reddish-pink fruits are prickly pairs. We picked ’em and we ate ’em, and a few moments later we were pulling prickles out of our hands with my eyebrow tweezers.
Later that day we went to Citlalli’s parents’ friend Jayo’s house. Here Jayo is showing us a comic he was working on.
We paid a visit to a cafe famous for its churros and hot chocolate.
Manolin and Citlalli making popcorn before we watched a movie.
This is what we watched: the third, fifth, and sixth Harry Potter movies.
Ending the evening with friends and snacks on my mom’s huge bed. ♦
