This photo series is an exploration of my past versus my present self. Many of these pictures were shot in places I had not visited since I was a child. The feelings I felt revisiting them…I could not determine if they were memories or dreams. The images are an attempt to visually represent the feeling of déjà vu; to examine the way new memories overwrite but cannot eradicate old ones (thanks to Anaheed for teaching me what a palimpsest is!); and to pay homage to the masters of surreal art.
Special thanks to Robbie (for modeling) and to my mum.

magical. look up the song “here before” by vashti bunyan if you haven’t heard it already!
yes! such a beautiful song! have you also heard fever ray’s cover? :)
ohhh i’m in love. You’re so good Eleanor <3 <3 <3
Was 11 inspired by the painting Christina’s World, by Andrew Wyeth? :)
indeed it was!
here’s a sneaky weird fact that i kind of want to share… the photo is actually a combination of two photos – i took a photo with the house there many years ago. it was my favourite house in the village where i live, every time i passed it i got this strange feeling… i went back to take this photo, but found the house had burned down. so i took the photo of myself there without it and combined the two. so it’s actually two photos, one from the past and one from pretty much now.
I love that painting, and this photo! Where was no.3 taken? It looks like the kind of place I should be spending more time …
Aaah that is so cool
Wow!
This was really lovely, thanks for sharing
this is so fantastic! so beautiful! i love every picture! definitely one of rookie’s best collections!

This….geez. 17 is the best. I’ve always had a soft spot for dried plants.
Eleanor always gets it right.
I learned about palimpsest from michael chrichtons timeline, which goes down as like the thousandth cool and significant thing ive learned from pulp fiction
Just yes. Yes to all.
17 is my favorite as well, but oh man, these are WONDERFUL

These are really awesome. Love the idea of a series of self portraits <3
absolutely amazing.
Aaahhhh so haunting and beautiful – they remind me of so many things (like Vermeer paintings or Malick stills or whatever) but they’re totally their own style too OMG ELEANOR YOUR TALENT KILLS ME
And now to veer from heart-deep to silly: so Robbie’s a looker. Nice catch. (If he is in fact Ya Boy, I assume so)
These are sooooo gorgeous
perfect!

Those are BRILLIANT! You are a true artist!!
Woah, really beautiful!
And I think the deja-vu theme is very well featured, especially in 2#, #3, #8 and #9 :)
