Ask a Grown Man: Tunde Adebimpe

TV on the Radio’s frontman deciphers the hidden language of mixtapes, possible signs of impending breakup, and so much more.

Tunde Adebimpe is so many things at once: the lead singer of TV on the Radio and of Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band (at Union Pool in Brooklyn this Sunday), a music-video director, the groom in Rachel Getting Married, and quite possibly the sweetest, wisest man alive, as proven in this video.

    That was goood.
(And this opinion has very little to do with the fact that I am a musician and he basically called us enchanters and wizards, which makes me feel like a very powerful, blonde norse god.)

I think also when someone says they love you, they are not challenging you to say it back – it’s because they want to express that feeling. If you are not ready, don’t say it. You can always go for a kiss instead :)

And maybe later on you will be ready, and then you can tell them, and they will love that!

I really loved what Tunde said (especially the part about putting spells on people by making them listen to a certain song. That was beautiful and true, yet somehow I never looked at it that way) but I also loved your advice! Very practical and sweet :)
