This resonated so much for me! Not the snot part, but the boys and thriving off others’ attention. I have really bad codependency so I feel like nothing unless I am constantly being seen and validated by others. Thank you for writing this and making me feel a teensy bit less pathetic!
OMG I loved this! It was so me, but in a bit of a different way. I get attention to myself not by standing out in speech, looks, clothes, etc., but by not acting like the rest of my school. I thought this was amazing, it was funny, and the drawings were great!

I know I would love this month’s theme because I love attention and I do things like these time to time (like dyeing your hair part). I am trying to be normal, I stop thinking about anyone else’s attentions less when I do my actions. The clothes I wear, my hair, the books I’ve read, the photos I took… Everything was to bring attention secretly. It’s been 1-2 months since I realized that. Actually I’ve always known it, but I couldn’t confess it to myself I guess. This month’s theme is really helping me out, and this post was really beautiful. Thank you so much.
That’s Quin, Jane and Daria growing up… all rolled into one person :D
lovely!
i love this! so funny but also incredibly truthful.
I want Rookie’s attention. I want it to marry me.
Love this new style of posting, by the way!

This is not an insult at all, ’cause my little sister is the smartest person i know, but this reminded me so much of her! She’s 9, so obviously she wants attention, at her age. But the thing about her is that she asks for attention intelligently. Her outrageous jokes are really hilarious! I don’t see anything wrong with wanting attention unless it hurts others or yourself. The illustrations are AH-MAZIN’, BTW!
I really can relate to this.
and these pictures are adorable! <33
This was so fantastic! The drawings were very cute. Also, I laughed out loud at Ghandi, Buddha, and the nun.
That’s Mother Teresa.
This may be one of my favorite pieces on Rookie EVER. I totally related to everything and the drawings are soooooooooooooooooooo awesome! I want this as a zine!!!!!
Love this!! I’m not bullied in school, but I am ignored a lot and I love me some attention. This is perfect
the illustrations are sooooooo cute
this is incredible – Emily and Esme are such an amazing, inspiring storytelling duo!!!
loved the illustration of 9!
I really want to read this, but it isn’t showing up for me. I tried going on Chrome and on my iPad, but it’s still greyed out. Help please? ;_;
Same! #2 and 3 are greyed out for me.
Are you also on an iPad?
On everything I use, #3 is always almost fully greyed out. On my iPad, the picture just didn’t show up at all.
speechless bc this is fantastic
this is brilliant – i can so relate. i love the illustrations and the message. simply flawless :)
Love! This is so cute and perfect! And there’s nothing wrong with saying “snot” too much! It’s one of my favorite pastimes… ;)
I just read that you are married to Kumail Nanjiani! That’s awesome!
love this, I’m 22 and I still fo these things cause I want attention, and I find so hard asking for it directly so I act like I’m upset or say bad things about me so yeah …
This is awesome…I love the illustrations, and I think I’ve done the majority of these at least once. I spend my life desperately wanting attention, but then also desperately wanting to blend in. It doesn’t usually work, but you know, I’m sure I’ll get my head around it eventually.
Wonderful!

am i the only one who can’t see this? ;c
I actually hate attention but I still loved this!
I LOVE this so much.
This is perfect
I laughed so hard at the story about snot. Also this is very helpful, it made me realize that I DO look for attention, a lot, and it’s really not all about me.
Yay! It works now! :D
I love how contradictory and silly she was in early adulthood. Must be mandatory to be absurd in your 20s, I can’t stop!!
i can sooo relate to the dyeing your hair part. mine is bright blue and it definitely helps you meet people without having to be a social person unfortunately
