This is so, so, so pretty and I CANNOT WAIT to listen to all of it and I luuuuuuuuv Big Star so freaking much <3

My grin grew increasingly as I scanned down the track list. This has got to be one of my favouite Rookie playlists so far!

And it makes for perfect listening after a ‘Stargazing Live’ catch-up. If you’re in the UK and you haven’t yet seen any of series 3, you should hit up iPlayer, like, now. Brian Cox and Dara O’Briain -as well as an appearance from Brian May of Queen fame!- talking about outer space, stargazing, and the Curiosity Rover is among the coolest things to ever happen (although I’ll admit it’d be ten times cooler if there were more women appearing). Thanks, Rookie!

I kind of just felt a relief and sense of pure carelessness and happiness with this playlist. Rookie team rules.

  • Meara.L.Lovegood January 12th, 2013 1:26 AM

Alsoooo Starman by Bowie. If I may be so bold.

  • Nell January 12th, 2013 2:56 AM

Lonely Moon by the Cat Empire would make this lovely playlist complete, I think.

  • klaras January 12th, 2013 4:45 AM

  • veraflorine January 12th, 2013 5:25 AM

Also The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen!

  • asylum January 12th, 2013 5:39 AM

  • themisfitprincess January 12th, 2013 5:54 AM

    Omigosh YES!!!

  • Teez January 12th, 2013 6:51 AM

Cosmic Queries (preferably a live version) by Willis Earl Beal fits quite well with this theme – definitely worth checking out:

Also because I’m a r&b nut i would suggest full moon by brandy (i esepcially like the kaytradamus remix):

like your playlists, i always discover new music

  • Alice In Wonderland January 12th, 2013 7:01 AM

this playlist made me forget all my troubles and i forgot everything wrong. its lovely, although i agree, starman by david bowie would make it better if it can be. but thankyou

  • Mary the freak January 12th, 2013 7:40 AM

I love this! <33 it makes me want to stay up all night!

  • periwinkle_dreams January 12th, 2013 9:14 AM

This looks like a fabulous playlist (I’m listening to the second track now but I haven’t heard most of the songs before – I just assume they’re going to be brilliant, cause Rookie playlists usually are).

Anyway, this is another song about the moon that I like and think you all should listen to:
It’s by The Hush Sound; the music feels lilting in a way that seems whimsical and sorrowful and mystical all at the same time; and there’s even a reference to Sylvia Plath’s “Mirror” in the lyrics, which I love.

    Hey now!

There’s NO WAY you can have a moon beam playlist without The Moonbeam Song by Harry Nilsson. You know who he is, right? The man both John Lennon and Paul McCartney named in response to an interviewer in 1968 who asked “Who’s your favorite American artist?” The man with the multi-octave angelic voice!

  • astridlotus November 11th, 2013 6:44 AM

Iggy Pop — I approve. Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon” would make an awesome addition, too. Really wish he appeared a lot more on these playlists, he’s an unturned gem.
