Otherworldly hymns for this winter’s night.
These songs span all kinds of genres and types—folk, dance, rock, electronic, acoustic, etc.—but what they have in common is a haunting, ethereal quality that’s perfect for a cold winter night.

TOTALLY UNRELATED but I saw Tavi on the Colert Report (so good) but can he totally go through with his request to write a piece for Rookie???
I hope he does!!
But wasn’t his pitch REALLY sketch in terms of policing female outfits? If he does it as a total joke (suggesting we all wear Amish dresses), that’s cool, but on the show it sounded like he actually wants to be one of the FASHION POLICE.
I didn’t think so — he seemed to be poking fun at his own dad-ness, the way parents are like “YOU’RE NOT LEAVING THE HOUSE IN THAT YOUNG LADY,” but maybe that wasn’t clear in the version of the interview that aired.
This is am amazing playlist for drawing *__*
cool alice coltrane
Yay cocteau twins <3
Rookie, I love all of your playlists!
Any playlist with Bjork is in it is absolutely perfect. <3
yes! she is my idol! this playlist is amazing!
I am forever in love with clear tender and heaven music with interesting, liquid and infantile vocals. when I listen to this songs, I fell in my deep thoughts and emotions, like Alice fell in Wonderland. the only word I can say: wow. my breathing became cold and passionate.
By far the best playlist I’ve heard on Rookie.
Great playlist to listen to while reading (✿◕ ‿ ◕)
Been playing this music all day and it has magically been the perfect accompaniment to all of my activities; studying anatomy, playing pool and making crowns with my bestie and working out our Wiccan names. <3
Love it <3
Wow! I can’t believe CocoRosie is on this, I LOVE THEM. I love love love Bianca she’s so beautiful & talented & her artwork is so amazing.
“I am the Shadout Mapes…the housekeeper.”
I though she was sooo creepy when I watched the Dune movie. I’m glad that a song named after her is equally eerie-sounding.
Grimes is the epitome of a perfect creature. Also, Kria is beautiful, although I feel she has a voice that takes getting used to, to enjoy its etheral, breathy quality.
CocoRosie is so fab.
Best playlist yet. ilu rookie.
it’s perfect for my freezing airconditioned room in rainy tropical climate too :9
deffo the best playlist. some cracking toonz ;D
this is just what i needed! only song this is missing is crystallized by melody’s echo chamber. if you haven’t heard it you should give it a listen
luv it el! have u heard of karen beth? she is the most eerie, depressing and lovely. definately my favorite forgotten songstress from the sixties. recommend the album ‘joys of life’

this isn’t the milk eyed mender recording of en gallop… what is it?
It’s a live version from 2004.
thank you! another beautiful version of my favorite joanna newsom song
Every song on this playlist had me squealing, inwardly, in a sort of frozen, wintery way. And my (grown-up)friends, who I’m steadily converting to Rookie. Thank you for pulling me out of my 90′s-boyband-on-repeat rut!
