Zombie Courtney Love
Zombie is my go-to costume, because it’s cheap and easy. You just need: old clothes that you are willing to shred, some fake blood (I kinda like the capsules because you get to bite them, but if you want to douse yourself, go with a spray bottle), and a very basic face-paint kit, like this one, which conveniently comes with fake blood and some creepy skin that you can use to make flesh wounds. And if you want to go the extra mile, you can get some fake tattoos of wounds with maggots.
The great thing about being a zombie is that your goal is just to look as messed up as possible, so you don’t have to try really hard. All I did was smear some of the white makeup on my face for pallor, and then I mixed in a bit of green for that rotting-corpse feel. For those cadaverous eyes, I took my own gray and black eye shadow, applied it heavily above and below the eye, and smudged.
A couple of years ago, I decided that instead of being zombie-me, I wanted to be zombie-somebody else. I chose Courtney Love, because she was an important role model to me growing up. I went to the thrift store and found a two-dollar nightgown, grabbed an old pair of fishnets, and got a blonde wig, in which I stuck a cigarette. I did the usual thing with makeup, embellishing with some Courtney-style smeared eyeliner, and voilà!
