DIY Eyeball Bows

You’re not seeing things. It’s this easy.

So maybe you don’t feel like dressing up for Halloween—you can still play with your personal style by tweaking it with some creepy-cute accessories. For this DIY, I was inspired by the Japanese pop star/fashion icon Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. If you haven’t heard of her, you should check out one of her videos. Her eyeball-print shorts are the best!

You’ll need:

  • Felt
  • Wiggle eyes (aka googly eyes). You can find these at almost any craft store, or online.
  • Plain hair clips
  • Rubber ponytail holders
  • Safety pins
  • Super glue
  • Scissors

1. Cut two small squares of felt. Your measurements may vary, but mine were 1.5 inches.

2. Triple-fold the felt, accordion style, as seen above.

3. Using the ponytail holder, secure the middle.

4. Glue your wiggle eye to the center of the bow.

5. Glue the bow to the hair clip.

6. For a larger bow, you can accessorize with wiggle eyes of various sizes, and add safety pins for extra adornment.

7. If you want to turn your bow into a brooch, secure a safety pin to the back of it.

The bow as seen on my model, Blythe.

These eyeball bows are very flexible. You could make a choker by gluing the bow to a piece of black lace and tying it around your neck. Or, if you wanted it to look more like a bow tie, make a bigger bow and affix it to a piece of elastic. Or find a plain headband, and glue some bows to it. The possibilities are pretty much endless! ♦

Ahhhh, love this!! I just glued a bunch of neon-colored wiggle eyes onto a headband the other day… I think I’ll make myself a matching brooch, now.

    Thanks for the instructions, Kaila!

These are super cute! But for some reason I kept reading this as DIY “eyebrows” and it was making me very confused.

    • litchick October 24th, 2012 3:15 PM

That is so funny! Gotta wonder what “DIY Eyebrows” would look like… :) :)

  • streaked lights October 24th, 2012 3:32 AM

Omigosh! These are adorable! Now I’m just wondering what other things I can stick googly-eyes onto… Maybe a headband covered with them? Or a chunky bracelet?
Who needs gems when you have GOOGLY EYES?

  • sophiethewitch October 24th, 2012 3:38 AM

Wow I love these! I have a mohawk– any ideas for how I could wear them?

    • Blythe October 24th, 2012 3:10 PM

As a brooch? As a bowtie? Depending on how much hair you have, you could maybe clip one onto the front…

  • mayaautumn October 24th, 2012 4:05 AM

    • ijustreallylikebands October 24th, 2012 12:25 PM

I love the little pun at the end, if I had a golden sticker I would give it to you but I don’t so you’ll just have to have an imaginary one;’)
