I can’t believe White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane isn’t here…
    classic.

    • Hazel March 9th, 2012 11:19 PM

Yeah, that’s a good song, but I didn’t really want to include literal “Alice in Wonderland” themed songs on the playlist. :)

    • nabilaLP March 9th, 2012 11:21 PM

YEAH that’s what i was thinking! but great mix either way :)

  • y-3 March 9th, 2012 11:19 PM

  • psychedelicmango March 9th, 2012 11:29 PM

omgomgomg how does this hazel person know about stereolab? they’re the best band ever besides beach house right? i don’t even.. eeeeppp!!!

    • Hazel March 10th, 2012 10:21 AM

their album “Dots and Loops” is the best!

      • psychedelicmango March 12th, 2012 4:49 PM

        sound dust is my fave

    • Tyknos93 March 10th, 2012 2:54 PM

I said aloud “STEREOLAB!?” They are the coolest band no one knows of. My friend said they sound like elevator music on acid.

      • psychedelicmango March 12th, 2012 4:48 PM

my mom said they sounded like caribbean music… i don’t know how she got that

  • Abby March 9th, 2012 11:31 PM

I think Rabbit Heart by Florence and the Machine should be on here… It’s so dreamy and amazing. Especially the video (although I guess you don’t care about the video while making a playlist ha)… And I also think you guys should do a background with a shot of the opening of that video, where Florence has the glittery fabric in front of her face… it just seems so… ROOKIE.

    • March 10th, 2012 8:07 AM

I completlly agree. I love Florence and that song/video is one of her best!!!! :)

  • End Orphan March 9th, 2012 11:35 PM

Strawberry Alarm Clock! So glad to see them here. They were the first thing I thought of when I saw “psychedelia” in the “Attention, good people.” box. Thanks!

  • maggiemadge March 9th, 2012 11:38 PM

Nice picks! I am so happy that Hazel added Neon Indian to the mix. They are one of my favorite bands and they even more amazing live!

where did you get the illustrations? its epic *_*

  • Miarele March 10th, 2012 3:00 AM

AMAZING! I love Alice with all my heart, along with every depiction or reinterpretation of her. I even kinda like the Tim Burton live-action one (the wardrobe is amazing, okay)

hmmm how about “My Love” by The Bird and the Bee? It has no direct reference but somehow it reminds me of Alice. Must be the whimsical voice and the part about falling :)

  • saltwater March 10th, 2012 6:07 AM

oh, this mix is lovely and perf.

  • talia anais March 10th, 2012 6:44 AM

    Gardenhead! Yes! Thank you!

  • Jessica Vixenelle March 10th, 2012 9:43 AM

Props to whoever created this playlist for not adding “Electric Feel” by MGMT– the amount of Alice-related playlists on 8tracks that have made “Electric Feel” the first song is enough to make you rip your hair out.

This music is fantastic, and the ones I’ve never heard are amazing and now adding to my iTunes!

  • Louise March 10th, 2012 11:27 AM

    Stereolab <3

  • Destiny-Hope March 10th, 2012 2:04 PM

There’s another song I love about Alice in wonderland, Alice by Noir Désir (a french band).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AKHJ6T5URY

I love all the songs of this band (this is the best band ever).

  • Gretchyn March 10th, 2012 2:11 PM

I love how Animal Collective is so versatile it makes a place in a lot of Rookie’s playlists. Every time I comment on these AC is all I talk about sorry. THIS WHOLE PLAYLIST IS GOOD

  • MaggietheCat March 10th, 2012 2:28 PM

Every playlist should end with Neutral Milk Hotel. No, really.

  • Susann March 10th, 2012 3:26 PM

ROOKIE IS NOW MY FAVORITE THING EVER WITH THE ADDITION OF NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL, especially a song off On Avery Island. I feel like Pree Sisters Swallowing a Donkey’s Eye could also have been added :)

My over-tired, barely chugging along caffeinated self just laughed for the most ridiculously long time at what I thought said RookieVag instead of RookieMag next to the playlist name.
    Yes, I’m actually a 12-year-old boy.

  • superkat March 14th, 2012 7:43 PM

best playlist yet. at the moment i am totally into this particular sound. thanks to rookie, i have a bunch of new songs to add to my ipod.
