I immediately thought of Hanna from the first picture. This place looks perfect!
Log in to replyGORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS SOOOOO GORGEOUS.
And not to be a butt or anything, but on number 12 the text is messed up… :) haha sorry.
Love it! Especially the tights and the BINOCULARS! *0*

Log in to replyThanks! Fixed.
Log in to replyLove this x
Log in to replyLOVE that shot of her with the blue tongue. Of course, I love all of it :)
Log in to replyWhere is this park?! I wanna go!
Log in to replyI loveee the blue outfit (from 14 to 19) :) Beautiful photos.
Log in to replyi love this so much! i love all the colors and the styling is excellent! thanks so much for all the inspiration!
Log in to replyBrilliant snaps,, what more can I say? i especially love pic 12- it’s so cute and innocent with the lunch box:)
Log in to replyi would love to see a little more size diversity. it’s great that y’all have more size/race/sexuality diversity than most teen magazines, but, y’know.
Log in to replyagreed! ! !
Log in to replyHere here! It’s my only sadness/sore spot with this super-awesome, smart, funny and delightful mag. I cringe a little every time it’s *another* skinny white girl… :-(
Log in to replyI agree that there’s a lack of diversity but I think that they’ve mentioned before that since it’s teen photographers they’ve got to work with what they have. It’s mostly kids photographing their friends whoever they can find which just so happens to be thin white ladies!
Log in to replyYES! I agree!!! Get me some curvy girls!!! Also, before anyone says anything, I think ALL women are beautiful, including skinny, curvy, in between, black, white, asian, and purple. But it would be great to see a bigger range! Also, curvy girls look awesome in vintage (PINUP!!!), and I know how much we all love vintage here, so…
Log in to replyI agree with the “more diversity” sentiment!
Log in to replyI agree that there should be more diversity but I also think that it’s great that Rookie doesn’t portray skinny girls like other magazines do. They make the girls look happy and healthy and I for one hate opening up a fashion mag and seeign depressed sickly looking girls on the pages. Kudos to Rookie for doing a good job.
Log in to replyyes, yes, yes. i know it’s difficult because the photographers are just shooting people they know, but i find it hard to believe that their friends are that homogenous. rookie’s subverted pretty much every other teen magazine convention, and i’m surprised to see that this one–one of the most pervasive and harmful–still persists.
Log in to replyAlso, I think the “teens photographing their friends” photos have the most diversity of looks etc. (And biggest fun-factors!) These photos (and many others on Rookie) are of models from agencies (see credits)… which Rookie has mentioned before in response to “more diversity” comments… it really does account for the models not reflecting real life… that’s not what modeling agencies do! :-)
Log in to replyThey ought to feature some more shoots from Rookie readers! The models they use in shoots like this one are always beautiful, without question, and I do like seeing them – but it would be great to see some more stuff from other gals like myself. I’m no photographer, but I’m sure some of you guys are. Ya’ll should submit!
Log in to replyI have been to this dinosaur park so many times as a child! I recognised the first dinosaur instantly. This has easily therefore become my favourite photo story ever. And that will probably not change. I feel about 5 again, so many amazing memories playing there, and now it’s a fashion hotspot. Awesome. Love you guys!
Log in to replyaaaah…why are rookie shoots always so perfect!
Log in to replyWAIT! Is this in CT?
Log in to replyDude I have totally been here, it is the bomb!!!
Log in to replyWow these are so cute, I especially love number 16 – true exploration. Looks like fun.
Log in to replyThat last shot is GEORGEOUS! All of them are, of course, but that last one… Wonderful!
Log in to replyWhere is this? I need to go see this now!
Log in to reply15 is my favorite – I have a soft spot for old binoculars. Where in the world were these taken?
Log in to replyAll of these are amazing but my all time favorite is #11.AWESOME.I really want those shoes.and those tights.then i can pair them up.so CUTE
Log in to replyI lovelovelove that rain jacket in number eight!
Log in to replySeriously, where is this place!??? Please someone answer!
Log in to reply14+15+16 = Moonrise Kingdom!♥♥♥
Log in to replygreat photography & i love the background sedmikrasky~ (:
Log in to replyI love the band DInosaur jr.!!
Log in to replyVery Ghost World-ish, almost like when Enid visits the prehistoric park because it was her “only happy childhood memory.”
Log in to replyWHERE. IS. IT.
Log in to replyTHESE ARE FANTASTIC!!! ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING.
Log in to replyabsolutely love these.
Log in to replyI swear Rookie is stalking me, and/or can read my mind, and/or does indeed stay under my bed each night… I was just this week going to ask my grandma to alter some dresses that my mom wore when she was a teen to fit me, and they look exactly like the first two dresses in this shoot 0_0.
Overall, this is all just perfectly beautiful <3 <3
Log in to replyEleanor, you are a genius!
Log in to replyThis is amazing. I want the outfit from #14. I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT!
Log in to replywell gawsh… if only there was a print version of rookie..
Log in to replyThis is amazing! The clothes are so pretty! <3
Log in to replyI love picture #11! I just wish the model had a few more facial expressions :/ she looks way too angry.
Log in to replyRawrawawarwaw
Log in to replyGHOST WORLD
Log in to replyyessss I was hoping someone else would think this too
Log in to replyThis is totally one of my favorite shoots from rookie. It really reminds me of a shoot that I would do with my friends- now that I think about it, the photo shoot I did on tuesday used binoculars! similar to the ones in the shoot, except we look cross eyed.
Log in to replyI kind of love everything about these pics. #11-13 are my faves. And I NEED that leather backpack!!!
Log in to replyOh my gosh this is everything I want my style to be. The saddle shoes, the socks, the hair clips. YES YES AND MORE YES.
Log in to replyTHIS IS AMAZING SHJFJKDSJK
all of the girl scout/roald dahl (that makes sense in my head) vibes
also the composition of the first one = joe wright’s Hanna SO MUCH
unrelated side note: SEDMIKRASKY STILL FOR TODAY’S BACKGROUND OMG
my one and only grievance is not exclusive to this shoot at all – these pictures are unbelievably beautiful, but they are still of a thin white girl. i understand that photographers who must use their friends/limited models would have a hard time finding diversity, but it’s still a bit bleh. bring on the curvy models of colour, make yourselves known to rookie photographers! we need you! :D
privilege check: I am a white girl, but that doesn’t mean I like white privilege :)
Log in to replyA thing I’ve thought before is, maybe, there could be a readers’ shot. Or readers or the Rookie staff could ask someone they barely know to be models. I don’t know, could be interesting. But isn’t Storm a professional modeling agency? Obviously, there is the question of location.
Log in to replyWe are working on exactly all of these things! <3
Log in to replyEvangeline is half Indian… perhaps it’s hard to tell from my pictures…
And I’m working hard on getting future castings more diverse, I promise! xx
Log in to replythis is probably silly to ask, but does rookie have a sort of style when it comes to the kind of photographs that get featured? :S
Log in to replyit sort of feels like there is! even if it might not be intentional. >.>
Well, Tavi picked all our photographers, so I guess you could say our style is “shit Tavi likes.”
Log in to replygood shit..=)
Log in to replyHahahaha. The secret is out!
Log in to replyahhh ok :]
Log in to replyWell i loved loved loved loved these. Especially nr. 21! So inspiring!! Thank you!
Log in to replyGreat shots and who doesn’t love dinosaurs right?
Log in to replyAwesome photos! So dreamlike……
They reminded me of this place in Ontario that sells gazebos and sheds. For some strange reason, the property is covered with giant dinosaurs. What they have to do with gazebos, I don’t know.
I’ve got a couple pics of them here:
Log in to replyLOVE THIS SO MUCH !
Log in to replyIn love with the yellow dress in photo number nine!! I like these photos a lot!!
Log in to replyOh my GOD I love this shoot!
Log in to replythere’s a dinosaur park like this in norfolk
Log in to replyi don’t mind whoever is in the pix if it’s relevant to the personal story. it wld be great if photo series wld include people whose looks i cld relate to, tho. just makes it harder to imagine what it wld be like to experience the feelings in the series…i’d think that wld be the point.
Log in to replyI loved it! Where is this from?
Log in to replythese are so great! I used to live in Reno, and there was this great park near my house, with big dinosaurs like these! I loved that park so much, I want to go back!
Log in to replyPlease, oh please tell us where she got that blue checkered outfit!!!!!!!!!
Log in to replySuch cool photos! I loved the first few!
Log in to replythis photoshoot makes my inner five-year-old very happy. this park looks fabulous and all the vintage dresses are so pretty (especially the polka dot one). my favorite picture is photo 10 because it looks a still from a happy remake of Jurassic Park where the humans and the dinosaurs are friends.
however, I have to admit I was kind of disappointed when I realized this wasn’t actually a post about dinosaur jr. haha
Log in to replyI was at a dinosaurs park with nurseryschool which looked exactly the same – but I guess you didn’t travel to Germany for that photoshooting… Amazing pictures!
Log in to replyI LOVE LOVE LOVE this, so majorly awesome! Hehe and you introduced me to Beyond Retro OmiGod such great cheap clothes for my straving wardrobe and thinning piggy bank :) THere’s even a Beyond Retro on Brick Lane YEEESS xxx LOVE Rookie
Log in to replythis is very adorable.
however, i wonder: when can we get some plus-size models up in here? i really like these photoshoots, but it makes me sad to see that even in such a progressive, body-lovin’, lady-friendly site, we still reinforce the notion that only skinny ladies should be wearing fantastic clothes. it’s so hard to reform the fashion industry, but having plus-size (and by that, i mean anything larger than an 8 — that seems to be the cutoff!) models could be the first step to enacting way overdue change.
i’m not rookie’s target audience — i’m 22 — but i know that when i was a teen, i wanted to see girls my size (my natural size is a 10 or 12) wearing excellent clothes, looking gorgeous and confident. because these models are gorgeous, too, but there are so many kinds of gorgeous.
Log in to replyThese are so cool!
Log in to replyWhere TF are you guys?! I am so going there. The concept of the shoot is awesome and I love the pairing of the dinosaurs with ruffles.
