Friday Playlist: Ladies First

Female rappers of today, yesterday…and tomorrow!

The world of female MCs goes much deeper than Nicki and Missy and Queen Latifah. Here is a selection of old faves, near-hits, all-girl-posse cuts, and a Nikki Lynette song to memorize the lyrics to.

So glad that Rookie have gone down the hip-hop route, even though it may only be for this playlist.

Loved most of the playlists that have appeared on the site, but it is refreshing to have some diversity in terms of music genres that are usually on here, so thank you!

I’m so happy that Yoyo is on this list. Here’s an amazing song by Patra, the best ever lady queen of ’90s music, that she guests on…look closely for a TUPAC cameo!

  • Chloe Elizabeth November 28th, 2011 3:42 PM

My favorite chick rapper is K.Flay. She’s so cool! I love her!

  • Girly Folk November 28th, 2011 5:57 PM

Thank god you didn’t put Kreayshawn.

  • Kaetlebugg November 29th, 2011 9:33 PM

Only way this could be better would be if you included Azealia Banks’ 212 because it is so delightfully “dirty”. But I guess that is a bit more pop, less R & B. Still I beg you, please find a way to include that song on a future playlist! Maybe one about female sexuality?

I’d like to nominate Dessa’s “Bullpen” or “Dutch” for this list.

  • marimba_girl December 12th, 2011 8:13 PM

Just realized that I missed this post the first time around. oh well, but don’t forget Santigold. She has this awesome sound, I can’t even explain it, check out her songs Say Ah and Shove It, but all of her music is worth listening to.
